Woohoo... yesterday's outing was really fun!!! :D :D

John, Wei Jian, Wan Juan, Pam and me....

Went to Cine for lunch; Suki Ramen. The bowls and spoons were ridiculously huge, but I thought the food was pretty good. Especially loved the soup and the pork chops that came as my side dish. At one point, while we were eating at that restaurant, we were the only ones who were in it; it was really quiet, as compared to our first choice of eatery: Pastamania one floor down was really crowded; people were even queuing for tables. And I had no idea that you could actually reserve tables at Pastamania. There was enough place for about 15 people reserved at the back.

Anyway, while we were eating, Wei Jian suggested going to Swensen's for ice cream, but when we got to the outlet near Taka, it was crowded... again. So we walked to PS and ate there instead. I had a double scoop of orange and lime sherbet; YAY!! I haven't eaten sherbet in ages!! :D

John was wondering what sherbet is, probably because my ice cream looked pretty odd coz my two blobs of ice cream were a bright shade of orange and green respectively, haha. Wei Jian answered him anyway before I could explain; he said it was damn sour stuff that was eaten by pregnant women.

That's Wei Jian for you. Insulting, as always. But he's fun, lol.

Anyway, among the three of us (John, Wei Jian and me, that is) we managed to establish that I love sour stuff just as much as sweet stuff. Sour mangoes, sour kana, preserved fruits, AND my sherbet!! :D :D

After ice cream, we walked back a little ways to Meridien Hotel where we played pool; was really fun!! It's actually the first time that I've played pool with friends; before, I only played at the club with my cousins and at a hotel in Malacca, which is where my dad first taught me to play. :D

John had to leave at about 6 coz he was meeting Wai Lun somewhere, that was a pity, but on the bright side, I learned a few new things. :) Wan Juan taught me and Wei Jian that you can actually play pool with three people; that is, three people choose five numbered balls, either 1-5, or 6-10 or 11-15, and then you try to hit everyone else's balls in; you can't even hit your own balls.

Wei Jian picked 1-5, and Wan Juan and I managed to hit four of his balls in, and between the two of us, we were trying to hit his last ball for about two rounds, and I finally got it in, haha...

Wan Juan won in the end, though. Both of us had two balls each still on the table, but she managed to get both of mine in. Wan Juan's really good; think she has a lot of practice!

Oh, and we taught Pam how to play!! Haha.... she paired up with Wan Juan, and I was with Wei Jian, when we played doubles after John left. Pam actually didn't hit much, but like I told her before we started that game, Wan Juan could hit enough for both of them anyway, haha... :D

And yeah, they did win, haha. Pam put the eight ball in too. :D

Wan Juan went off to meet her friends after we were done, and Wei Jian went to meet his friends too. Pam and I walked around for a while and we went back to PS and I bought myself a badge with a snarky, insulting message on it. I've been dying to own one of those for ages! Haha... anyway, mine declares that : "I am multi-talented. I can talk and piss you off at the same time." :D :D

It was the best one in the shop, haha. The best were mostly kinda lame.

And Pam got to have a better look at the jacket that she wanted; it was this really cool thing with two layers, but the inside layer that was made of wool can be removed and worn on its own and so can the nylon layer outside! It's a detachable sorta thing, so you can either wear the wool one or the nylon one, or you can wear both at the same time in a cold country! And it has a hood too, like any decent jacket should. :D And it costs only about $35 after the 40% discount that the store has. Quite a good price, I think.

Walked around the shopping centre... went into a lot of makeup stores looking at perfumes and pretty glittery, sparkly lipsticks and lip glosses and nail polish. Lol. I've come to realise that about the only reason why I like make up is coz it's colourful, haha... I wouldn't really use it, since I don't go out very often, but I love sparkly, glittery stuff. Almost all the nail polish that I've ever bought has glitter or sparkles in it, after all.

On a side note, Maybelline's 3D Glitters lipstick is really sparkly. And it costs $15.50. :p And I want Red Earth's "Free", which costs $39. :D

We went downstairs to Marks and Spencer's then, and Pam and I were ridiculously tempted to buy a whole lot of stuff, but she settled for some chips (if I remember right) and I bought bacon rashers! I love bacon rashers and I obviously haven't eaten those in ages too, haha. Wonderfully salty and tasty and absolutely yummy.... :D

Oh, and then we bought Lime Bacardi Breezer, it's only $4 now! Pam drank hers on the way to Taka, but I brought mine home, haha. She'd turned slightly red in the face by the time we got to Taka, lol.

We walked to Taka after that coz I wanted to drop off my library books and then we went downstairs to Kino and I finally bought "The Silmarillion"!! Isn't it wonderful; Gerri finally owns a copy of the Silmarillion! YAY!!!

Haha... I loved yesterday!! I wish everyday could be like yesterday!! :D

You know that Ferrero Rocher ad on tv, where the couple are getting married and the groom presents the bride with a huge bouquet of Ferrero Rocher chocolates?

Do you even know how heavenly a chocolate bouquet smells?

Auntie Sharon was making one yesterday, coz apparently the recipient of the bouquet was allergic to flowers, so the person ordered a bouquet of Ferrero Rochers instead, haha.

And I'm telling you, it smells WONDERFUL.

Smells of chocolate, of course, and even better yet, no need to worry about pollen grains or hay fever or whatever, haha. It's perfectly safe to smell, and even better yet, you can eat the "flowers", instead of standing them around and letting them look pretty and then throwing them away when they wilt, which is always such a waste.

But it's a lot of hard work, really...

The chocolate has to be stuck on the ends of wooden skewers so they can be bundled together like flowers, but the wooden skewers are a lot less flexible than flower stems, obviously, so it's really difficult to hold them together and everything. And there were ninety Ferrero Rochers in that bouquet too. It took both my hands to hold it together while Auntie Sharon wound tape around it to hold them together.

I want a chocolate bouquet... and it doesn't have to be very big; I just want one coz it looks pretty! Hahaha.... And it smells and tastes good too, lol.

Nine or ten chocolates would be quite enough, haha.. :D

I love BreadTalk bread! :D

And probably the earliest I’ve ever bought it was today, at abt 11.26 am.

It’s something about buying the bread so early in the morning, I think… it’s all freshly baked and whatnot… I mean, I’ve never seen the trays in the store nearby so full, and today, I bought the largest Applewerm that I’ve ever seen!

I measured it too. :P It was 6 and a half inches long! Normally they’re about 5 inches or so, I think. And I swear it wasn’t my imagination, but the apple filling in it tasted a lot sweeter too.

And not just the Applewerms, all the other different breads in the shop looked somewhat larger than usual too.

So I was just thinking, y’know—do they look larger than usual coz they’re so freshly baked? And does that mean that they shrink as the day goes on, so that they become the “usual” size that we see later?

And while we’re at it, how long ARE they left out on those shelves?? O.O

Hm. Well.

Oh, yes, Gerri has had another wonderful epiphany.

Well, all right, I wouldn’t call it an epiphany per se… that’s making too big a deal out of it.

Anyway, I have come to realise that I need a laptop.

As in, my OWN laptop.

I need somewhere to put all my stuff, all my creations and manuscripts and everything where no one will touch them except me.

The unthinkable has happened.

I'm sick! First time in three (almost four now) years ever since I accidentally ingested that sodium chlorate in the lab back in Sec 3, when I was involved in that Crystal Growing Competition.

Ah well, once in three years; I figure I've earned the time to be sick, haha.

Had this slight fever at about 3 pm yesterday, and I managed to get rid of it before I went to sleep last night, but this morning it was back again, 37.8 degrees. Managed to shake it off at about 2 pm today again, but still slightly achy... in my legs and back mostly. My mum says it's flu symptoms. Weird thing is, all I've had is a fever. No cough or runny or blocked nose or anything.

Have a blocked throat, though. Blocked throat... does that make any sense to you? Well, it just feels sorta clogged up, that's all. I make myself sound like a sink! :P

Meh. Feeling very bored.

Almost finishing this book now... "Under An English Heaven" by Robert Radcliffe; very nice-- WW2 story. I don't think I can remember how many WW2 stories I've read, haha. "Street Boys" by Lorenzo Carcaterra was good too; also a WW2 novel.

Had an urge earlier this week to buy Josh Groban's albums; he does have a wonderful voice. :)

Will see about it when the time comes... :D

Well... "Resident Evil" on TV last night was fun...

Scared myself almost shitless for two whole hours; yep, it was good stuff. :P

Sad that the last two cops died even after they managed to get out of the Hive and everything... Rain was really cool, haha.... now that's what I call a lady in power!! :P

Hell, even the computer was kinda cute. Red Queen-- interesting name for a computer.

And a damn smart computer it was too, man.

First off, the thing realised that there was a biohazard, so it shut the whole facility down and killed everyone so that they wouldn't be able to get out and spread the virus-- and it's really pretty damn good at spotting signs of life. And of course, wiping them out.

Really efficient computer it was.

And the ending was interesting... imagine being the only living person left in the world... or at least, in your city. What kind of a stupid name is "Raccoon City", anyway....

Going round and round in circles here coz it's early in the morning and I slept at past two in the morning, so I don't really have a brain yet. Like I've always said anyway, I don't have a brain till eleven in the morning.

"Resident Evil" ended at twelve, y'see, and after that there was this documentary thing about hauntings in the USA. Interesting stuff, so stayed up with my sis to watch it. And after that, this interesting show called "Miracles" popped up on TV, so we stayed to watched that too.

Interesting how fun early morning TV is.

Must stop using the word "interesting".

Just got back from the Miss Singapore Universe semi-finals.. Laura got into the finals!!! And she was the first finalist to be announced too! :)

It's kind of exciting, really. :)

It got pushed back to 9 pm at the last minute, and I thought that it'd end really late then, but surprisingly, the competition proper only took half an hour! Swimsuit and evening wear segments, not much to it, really. It was the judges' deliberating that took another half an hour or so...

My legs are really tired though; it was held at Aquadisiac just outside Wisma, and the place was really kinda small... When we got there, all the seats were already reserved and there was only standing room left.

So, I've been on my feet non-stop for about three hours! Yeah, from 7.30 till 10.30... O.o

Hm. How many calories can you burn just by standing? Haha...

What else to say.... Think I was able to contract lung cancer just by breathing in all that cigarette smoke inside the bar. And vodka lime is damn bloody strong. You take a tiny sip of it and it goes straight to your stomach and actually stays warm down there for about fifteen minutes!

Oh well. Interesting night indeed, lol. :D

Hope Laura wins it the next round too!! :D

Been raining the whole day!! Surprisingly, there isn't already about two metres of water on the ground or something....

And once again, we have our drainage system to thank.

But it's kinda creepy, coz I've just watched the trailer for "The Day After Tomorrow" and there's this one part in in where two guys are looking out a window and there's a thunderstorm going on outside, lashing the window and everything, and the guy who's closer to the camera suddenly remarks, "It's been raining like this for three days now."

Yes, well, that's coz in the movie, the thunderstorms are precursor to what-- from the trailer-- looks like hundreds of hurricanes striking later all at the same time.

Have decided that I wanna watch it.

Global warming, massive climate change, the dawn of a new Ice Age-- basically an apocalyptic event; hey, count me in. :D Not to mention that this is from the guy who directed "Independence Day", and I loved "Independence Day". :)

Sad thing is, I don't think the actual end of the world is very far off from now.

Shall soon have to make a list of movies that I wanna watch. Think I'll put it in the sidebar there on the left.

Ah, almost forgot to mention: Laura's in the Ms Singapore-Universe semi-finals! :D

My class is gonna go support her on Thurs, 7.30 pm at Wisma; too bad Edison will still be in camp then. If any CJ people are reading this, come and support too!! Bring rotten eggs to throw at the other contestants, haha. :P

This is so cool; I'm gonna know someone who's famous! Haha, just kidding. I'm happy for her, really; must be cool to have got so far in the competition, and imagine if she wins! She'll get to go to Panama (or wherever it's being held) and it'll really be an experience. Even if she doesn't get into the finals, maybe some model agency might scout her out at the semis; she'll still have a pretty good career ahead of her!

Sunday, March 07, 2004

Went for alumni band yesterday and only got back home at 12.45 am this morning. :P

We went out to celebrate Wai Yee's bday; just bought her a simple little cake and went round the back of Esplanade, found a quiet spot and settled down to sing her happy birthday and let her make her wish and then we all ate cake.

Was damn tired in church today, but forced myself to stay awake and pay close attention to the sermon coz must be thankful for my results, esp my A for Literature and B3 for GP. :P

Went out with Pam and Syl today to watch "Something's Gotta Give"; it was quite funny, actually; and it's only the second romantic comedy that I've ever watched in my life! Haha...

Had Pastamania for lunch, Creamy Chicken pasta and mocha. And I just had spaghetti for dinner again, haha. Could get used to this. :P

Saw a cheerleading competition at the large open space just outside Taka today; looked fairly scary, with all the usual throwing of bodies into the air and everything. But it was kinda strange coz the guys weren't really strong enough to heft the girls into the air at one go; they had to toss them a little, bounce them a bit to gather momentum and then flip them up.

I have three library books; plenty to keep me occupied, plus enough puzzling to do about Uni and all that crap, and my sis has managed to borrow Tolkien's "Silmarillion" so that'll about keep me pretty happy. :D

Saw Yao Guang when I got off the bus when I reached home; he was jogging and I think he didn't recognise me at first coz he glanced up, noticed me, and then later he looked up again and then he waved, haha. I've actually kinda forgotten that he lives around here.

Now currently have four choices of courses in mind: Psychology (tho highly unlikely I'll get in), Philosophy (would love to take this, despite the fact that there's probably not much of a career in it), Law (don't really want this, but apparently, my B3 for GP qualifies me for it; altho my Econs grade isn't fantastic, but why the hell would Law require Econs?? Unless you wanna do company law? I'm not even sure what that is and what it entails) or Journalism (veering more and more towards this as time passes; altho I'll be slogging my ass off in this career before I manage to get anywhere near the top).

Well, that's it for Gerri's semi-interesting day. Ta.

A!!!!! A!!! I have a bloody A for English Literature!!

I dunno how the hell that happened, but I'm DAMN HAPPY!!! I can't even tell you HOW DAMN HAPPY I AM!!!

HAHA..........

My God, this is so bloody unexpected!!

Ms Fernandez was giving out the results of course and when she handed me my results slip, I was dead shocked-- in a good way. :P

There was an A grade right at the top of my paper and the first thing that went through my head was "WHAT?!?"

I fucking CRIED, man!! It was staring at me, slapping me in the face: "A for English Literature"!!!

I mean, I've NEVER seen an A grade in my whole JC life, man! The closest I've ever got to it is a high B for some of my Lit assignments, and even then, all I was ever good in was Prac Crit and Plath!

I even turned up almost late for one of my Lit papers!! I only arrived 30 secs before the start of paper! Haha..... maybe I should've come late for all my papers, haha. Then again, maybe not. :P

It seems like Lit will ALWAYS surprise me, haha.... I got B3 for it back in O levels when the highest that I'd ever got before was C6 in Prelims and even then it was moderated up by five marks so technically I'd failed, again... haha. And now I'm getting an A when the highest overall grade for it that I've ever seen since is an E!!! Haha...................

I actually asked if the results slip was really mine and I had to check the name at the top TWICE to make sure of it, haha....

Got B3 for GP, which is good enough for me! I was afraid that I might fail coz I thought that my argument might seem really long and convoluted and not make any sense at all in the end to the examiners! Haha....

I was actually scared that they wouldn't be able to read my handwriting, coz it was all HORRIBLE scribbles!! I made it a lot bigger than my normal handwriting, but it still looked absolutely horrendous. I was scared about the exact same thing during O levels; that they wouldn't be able to see what the hell I was writing and I'd get a results slip that said that my handwriting was illegible and so all my papers would be ungraded! Haha....

Got exactly what I expected for Geog and Econs, haha. So that's quite good too, lol.

Pam and Wei Jian and John all have the same grades; won't say what those grades are, coz it's not nice to tell everyone someone's grades.

John hasn't changed much since he enlisted; still looks about the same, albeit with much shorter hair!

Oh, yes, it was kinda funny today coz a lot of the boys were wearing caps and everything, haha. No more hair after enlisting, lol.

Edison's hair was all gone! All he had was this fuzz on his head, and if it's possible, I think the lack of hair made his eyes look even bigger. O.o

But, back to results. Haha.

There must be a God after all. :D

Suddenly this opens up a whole lot of options, haha. I don't have to go to an arts school anymore! I could take Journalism, I think... :D

Altho the idea of taking professional writing is still very open. :D

I am so happy and so RELIEVED!!!!

I NEVER, EVER in my bloody WILDEST dreams dreamed that I would have an A on my GCE A LEVEL RESULTS SLIP!!!

Thursday, March 04, 2004

Well, I'm posting this on a Thursday night, so obviously the world didn't end on Tuesday like Pam and I wanted it to.

Damn.

I know you can't have everything in life, but I never get anything!!!

Anyway. Have decided not to worry about bloody stupid A's results anymore. They're being released tomorrow at 2.30 pm btw, the horrible things.

Not going to worry about results anymore coz I've decided that I'm gonna go to an arts school where they teach professional writing and all that kinda stuff and they won't give a crap about stupid A level results.

Talk about cheating the system.

But, yeah, writing.

Yeah, that I can do. :)

Lord of the Rings won EVERYTHING THAT IT WAS NOMINATED FOR!!!!

Jesus Christ, I just can't make the words big enough!! I want 'em to jump off the screen and smack right in your face to show how bloody overjoyed I am but I can't do that, haha. Aren't you thankful. :P

And on top of that, not only does it tie for most Oscar winnings and it's also only the third film to win all its nominations but it's also the FIRST EVER fantasy film to win the Best Picture!!!!

Man, to know in your heart that they could take everything is one thing, but to see it actually happen right before your eyes really does take your breath away!!!

God I am so bloody happy for them!!!

And to every bloody stupid critic who said that a fantasy film couldn't win the Best Picture, TAKE THAT!!!-- not only did they win the Best Pic, they won EVERYTHING ELSE too!!

The hobbits were all there; they were so adorable! Orlando Bloom wasn't there; minor but expected disappointment for me, but er, spotting Johnny Depp on the red carpet about 10 mins into the pre-show segment more than made up for it, haha. He looks great after he cut his hair. :D

And he was sitting in the second row of the third block of seats from stage left, so it was damn distracting every time the camera zoomed out to follow someone onto stage to receive the award, coz he was always visible, haha. He's a scene-stealer all right, lol.

He didn't win the Best Actor thing tho, which was a bit of a disappointment, but yeah, Sean Penn deserved it, he did. Johnny Depp's got his SAG Award, anyway. Now that just looks wrong when you type it out, haha....

And how lucky can some people get??

They started the show with Billy Bush riding with Keisha Castle-Hughes to the venue and he was asking her who she'd like to see before they got out of the limo; she said Johnny Depp, and about a minute before the show starts proper, Billy Bush reappears before the camera and gets Keisha Castle-Hughes out of her seat and brings her over to meet, well, Johnny Depp.

I was rambling on about that all night, and my sister says that I have this big Johnny Depp obsession now which she wishes I'd just get over, but really it's not so much the guy himself; I mean, how many people wish to get to see someone and they get that wish granted in less than half an hour??

There are lots of folks that I'd like to meet, but my problem here is that half of 'em are six feet under and the other half are just way out of my league; chances of even passing them on the street are about squat, mainly because I live on the other side of the world.

'Course, that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to meet Johnny Depp, haha. I'd like to meet the guy, yeah I would, and if I actually get to do that, I'd wanna ask him how he does it, y'know? Just doing what he wants and not giving a flying fuck what everyone else thinks and how everyone still loves him for that, coz where I come from, when you don't give a shit what everyone else thinks, people hate you and say that you've got your head up your own ass.

Sigh. Oh well.

I was actually laughing at Orlando Bloom in Johnny Depp's Best Actor nomination vid coz he was covered in sand and was filthy, lol. Very big diff, as compared to Legolas coz Legolas was always so clean! I was wondering what all the LOTR people might be thinking when they saw that; finally get to see Elf-boy get all dirty and everything, haha.

I'm still high from yesterday, haha.....

All right, I'm gonna go off and be happy for Lord of the Rings and PJ and Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens and the whole lot of them now. And I'll be somewhere where I won't bother anyone with my incessant rambling, haha. :D
