All right, I bought the LIME mag today because I walked into 7-11 and Orlando Bloom's face was on the cover. Ahem. Yes, bite me, I'm an impulse shopper when I want to be.

And, after that, I was in my dad's shop and I was sitting there reading slash fics and I was reading VM/OB stuff and the magazine was just sitting right by my elbow with Orlando Bloom's face staring up from it, and it just felt WRONG, man!! Reading slash fics, and one of the persons in there is just right beside... well, sorta right beside me. Geez, that was unnerving.

Oh, AND, speaking of Orlando Bloom, apparently "Troy" opens here on May 13th. Yes, that means that we Singapore folks are gonna get to watch it about 24 hours before the rest of the world does. YIPPEE! Well, except for the premiere that the stars get, of course.

American Idol last night; John Stevens is off, the poor thing. He does have a nice voice; it's just that he's not versatile enough and there're too many kinds of songs that he just can't sing! I seriously hope someone picks him up and trains him, gives him the right songs to sing and helps him to develop his voice more and all that; he really does have a lovely voice, just that he's unpolished right now.

Well, good luck to him, anyways. And I hope Latoya London wins! Now there's a lady with talent AND class. :D

Oh, and last night's OC was so adorable!!

My sis and I were laughing at the wide range of emotions that Benjamin McKenzie could convey with his facial expression; specifically, his eyes. "Expressive" eyes indeed, lol. Let it never be said that the eyes are not windows to the soul. Benjamin McKenzie gloriously (and hilariously) disproves that. :P

The way his eyes slide around and bug out at the appropriate times is just hilarious and downright cute at times, man! So adorable.... :D :P

There was something that I wanted to say/type on here for the whole day, but now that I'm here, y'know what?

Yeah. That's right. I've forgotten what it is.

Brilliant thing, my brain is. Like a fishing net, y'know? Full of holes.

Oh, right, I remember! I washed my shoes yesterday! Well, on Sunday I mean, since looking at the time, it's Tuesday now.

Yes, I know that's not particularly spectacular or exciting, but it's the first time I've ever washed this pair of shoes! I've never washed them since I bought them about 2 years ago, and I've always thought that they were grey.... Now that they're clean, it turns out that they're actually this bluish light-grey colour.

Fascinating. I don't even really remember them being that colour. :P

I might wash them again this Sunday, maybe that'll get the stubborn little brown stains out... I got those when I walked through the rain and when we went traipsing through the drain during one PE lesson last year, haha...

Anyway, yesterday's ep of "Everwood" is on tape downstairs; think I'll watch it tomorrow morning since I didn't catch the first half of it yesterday when it aired.

But what I saw of the second half.... damn, it was lovely episode!!

But, bad thing is, it's the season finale. Damn it. I bet Singapore hasn't even bought season two yet, so this means that I'll be waiting f***ing ages just to find out what happens to Colin!!!

Well, technically that's not true, since I already know that Colin dies, but well... you know what I mean. Leaving us hanging like that... leaving ME hanging like that!!

I need to SEE it!!

Watched the Top Model show again... it's the only thing worth watching on Monday night, anyway. Does anyone know why the hell the people at Channel 5 schedule all the GOOD shows so late at night?? I mean, Buffy and OC are stuck with 12 mn on Wednesday and 11 pm on Thursday respectively; what's up with that??

Going off on a tangent again. Must stop doing things like that.

Meh.... I already know how the show ends, but I was so hoping that Adrianne and Elyse would be the last two... I hate Shannon. Another stupid bible-thumper. Did you hear her reason for liking that Brad guy in one of the earlier episodes? "Oh, his fai-vrit book is the Bah-ble--" yeah, that Southern accent of hers; at least hers ain't as bad as Robin-bitch's and at least she doesn't have airs.

And Elyse is so much better and more good-looking than Shannon! She's got more style, more attitude, more bloody everything than Shannon does! Can't f***ing believe that Shannon got to be runner-up. Not complaining about Adrianne getting the top spot, tho. She deserves it; she's got really good attitude and commitment and all that, man. Almost nothing fazes her, and that's cool.

But anyway, apparently Elyse is doing well... finishing her contract with Wilhemina and going off to med school soon; that's what I saw in the papers about three weeks ago; good for her. :) If I have a daughter, I might name her Elyse, haha. Coz Elyse is cool and Elyse is also a damn classy name. :D

And she's so adorable!

Her cute little pixie face and hair, and she's so fair, she's almost pale!! And that dark blue fisherman's hat that she was wearing in the ad for tonight's episode; she was so cute! Sitting on the bed with that hat on and giggling away... so adorable! And I love her little red coat!! :D

Still can't remember what exactly it was that I wanted to blog, but I may have said/typed it without remembering/knowing. So, er, well. That's about it, I suppose. :P

See, this is why I don't usually take afternoon naps. Coz when I take afternoon naps, I end up being really awake well into the wee hours of the morning. Like so.

Figured that since I'm awake, might as well do something with my time...

Was thinking of making an OC wallpaper earlier today, and was thinking that the caption (or is the word tagline??) on it could be "California Dreamin'". Nifty, no? Eh, well.

But, see, as it turns out, there are kinda few OC sites with enough pictures and screencaps, and god, I need transcripts. I can't watch a show without transcripts! I don't mean that I can't catch the dialogue or anything; it's just that I like to go over the dialogue and see if I can find some way to coax a nice ficcie out of some random line... Yeah, that's just me for you.

Isn't it strange that I'm so much bloody saner at this damn ungodly hour???

Went to the library to return "Songmaster" today; have put it in my list of books to buy when I have enough money. :)

And, guess what I found; was just roaming around the shelves when I happened to glance down and saw this book with a plain white cover and the spine said "The Fabulist"-- I thought it sounded really familiar, and when I saw the author's name further down the spine, I realised why.

Stephen Glass.

Cool, huh? There was a mention of the book at the end of the Shattered Glass movie, and I made a note to check if it was in the library, but forgot; as usual. But, hey, I've got it now! :D

And I managed to get Virginia Woolf's "To The Lighthouse"; FINALLY. That book must be the second hardest one to get, after Tolkien's Rings Trilogy; in my opinion, that is.

Going on a book-reading spree right now, and it's wonderful.

If I had all the money in the world, I'd buy myself a house, large enough and comfortable enough for maybe one person and at the most two guests, and half of that house would be a study lined with shelves up to the ceiling and I'd fill those shelves with books; T.S Eliot, John Donne, Robert Frost, various other poets, Neil Gaiman, Tolkien, Orson Scott Card... among other stuff; I'd probably buy some non-fiction reading material for fun, like stuff on psychology and all that-- and I'd put all my CDs in a corner of that study, and more than half of those CDs would probably be instrumental ones, like contemporary piano or saxophone, or classical and baroque stuff.

Life would be great if I had a big study full of books... :)

Almost forgot to mention that a section of Nicoll Highway collapsed today; interesting stuff, since nothing manmade in Singapore has collapsed since the 1985 Hotel New World collapse incident. Seems like lotsa interesting stuff's happening in my lifetime. Anyway, there's a 30 m deep cave, three injured people and the death toll is one right now. Apparently there're still three people missing.

They had to shut off the gas and Suntec City and the Esplanade areas had a 15 min blackout too; and there was an explosion and shock waves coz of the gas.

Hm... says here on the CNA site that the hole's the size of a basketball court.

Whoa. Picture. Looks worse than I thought.

Yeah, it looks like the road just fell in, all right....

All right, man!! Stupid Robin is off the Top Model show!!

YEAH!!!

Stupid, bitchified, bible-thumping, stuck-up, prissy.... bitch. :P

Geez, I hated her the minute I saw her, and she's ugly as all-f*** anyway; she's got these fat lips that I can't stand, and damn, that accent pisses me off!! Okay, it's not so much the accent, coz there are some people who talk that way and it's still charming; I think it's more like the way she talks, acting all prissy and high-class-like and refined when hello have you f***ing listened to yourself talk, man?!?

I only started watching the show when there were seven girls left, and I hated her the very first time I saw her! And it was exactly the opposite for Adrianne and Elyse.

Adrianne is the bomb. Love her attitude, man. She's so committed and everything, and Elyse, she just has class, man.

Why do I keep saying/typing "man" so much?? Ugh. Makes no sense. Stop it now.

So yeah, I've been wishing like anything that Robin would get picked off ever since I started watching, but she just stuck, damn it! And now she's finally GONE!! WOOHOO!!!

No more fat lips and stupid accent anymore!

Oh wait, there's still Fantasia Barrino; guess there still are gonna be fat lips around then. But then again, I don't watch American Idol, anyway. Can't be bothered. But on second thought.... Fantasia's all right. Good enough personality. Everything about Robin-bitch just puts me off.

Adrianne and Elyse ROCK!!! :D

USP interview yesterday was okay.... As is always the case with these kinds of things, I forget the questions the minute I step out of there. Happens everytime after an exam too. Blessing in disguise, I say. :P

Anyway, I wasn't nervous when I got there, which I found rather strange myself, but eh.. when I walked into the interview room itself, that changed. Slightly. Only slightly, but was enough to make a difference. Or it might have been the air-conditioning. The rooms were all really white and sparsely furnished and the air-conditioning must've been 20 degrees or something, so it was pretty cold...

But, it was okay. :)

Told my sis a few days ago that Troy was rated R in the USA; sorta means NC-17. Which means that when it opens here, it'll probably get an M18 rating. My sis swears that she's gonna go to Balestier to watch, coz the last time she went there with some friends, they didn't check their ICs. Not that she had an IC at that time. Which sort of is my point.

Ned Kelly didn't have a terrifically wonderful review in today's paper, which sucks... Only got 2 and a half stars outta five, so now I'm still wondering if I actually wanna go watch it. Or maybe I'll get the VCD at a later date.

Watched Hidalgo already; let it never be said that Viggo Mortensen can't sing. :D All right, I mean that it a positive way... I mean, the guy can sing Elvish stuff, he sings um, jazz, and... uh now we know that he can sing Native American-Indian folk songs too! Altho, geez... when the guy speaks the Sioux language in the movie, it's weird. It sounds so bloody much like Elvish yet not like Elvish at the same time, and it sounds like gibberish coz the sounds keep repeating throughout the sentences!

And speaking of the guy... I read his poem, "Communion", and Jesus Christ, is absolutely bloody depressing. You wouldn't think the guy had it in him. It's absolutely wonderful. :D

Ah, watched Shattered Glass too. Was great; I mean, story was very good, and Hayden Christensen was smashing (did I just type "smashing"?!? Oh, heck, who cares); it was like acting within acting, you know what I mean? And man, Stephen Glass was just kind of a suck-up in the film, but really, he was a rather loveable suck-up. Sorta felt sorry for him.

I think now I'll just sit back and wait for Troy; only about a month left to go; yippee. :)

Reading good stuff sometimes makes you feel vastly inadequate; especially when said author quotes lines of beautiful classic poetry that fit into the story and sound beautiful in and of themselves.

As a result of said quality reading, Gerri now wants to learn sign language. I considered it a few years ago, I remember, but never did anything about it. There're a lot of things in my life which I've considered but never done anything about, come to think of it.

And yeah, I keep wanting to learn languages, anyway.

And with regard to aforementioned classic poetry, I need books by John Donne. If I remember right, I think I was taught that he was a metaphysical poet or something. And I need T.S Eliot. "The Wasteland". Utterly depressing piece.

Means that I HAVE to have it. :P

Robert Frost wouldn't hurt either. And throw in Coleridge while you're at it.

ARGH!! Gerri needs to go on a poetry-reading binge!!! I need books!!!

Tuesday, April 13, 2004

Well, a day can be full of surprises... I got a call yesterday from USP saying I have an interview on Saturday. Man, I'm happy, but well, not deliriously happy (maybe not yet, I don't know :P) just more like, "oh, that's cool!" kinda happy. :P

Cool. I've never gotten to the interview stage of anything that I've applied for before... the last thing that I applied for was UWC and well, I didn't get that, mainly coz I left my essay till the last minute and I wrote a pretty crap one, I think. So this time, I spent two whole weeks drafting and editing my USP essay before I sent it in!

Ha. Who says I don't learn from experience? :P

So.... interview on Saturday. Oh, Pam got called back for an interview too; figured she'd get called back; after all, if they called little nobody me, why wouldn't they call Pam??? :D

Right. Am running out of stuff to blog now.

Hm. On a side note, on last night's "America's Next Top Model", I think Elyse rocked. :) She was the independent woman, man! :D All the other girls were just kinda pathetic. And poor Adrianne, almost got felt up; didn't think that there were asshole pervs like that in France, let alone Paris; the idea doesn't really seem to fit, what with Paris being so high class and everything. Stupid Shannon and Robin piss me off with their bible-thumping; can't wait to see next episode-- something about posing nude-- I bet the two "holy" girls are gonna flip. Ha! :P

Yes, I'm evil. I just can't stand super-religious people. :P

Finally watched the Miss Singapore-Universe thing. Was at my sister's concert last Saturday, so couldn't watch the actual telecast, so I taped the repeat telecast yesterday and watched it this afternoon.

Laura got 3rd runner-up, but hey, she got into the top five; that's great! And she won Miss Personality too, haha... I completely understand that. :D She's got a whole lot of personality. :)

And she got the highest score in the swimsuit category; geez, she's so skinny! Well, slim. Not skinny. All right. And second in the evening gown category. Her dress was just this thing where the top consists of two broad straps tied behind her neck, just covering the um... well, necessary areas, but she still looked good in it! Laura can carry off anything, man! Like Pamela said, she could wear a sack and still look good, haha...

Went out earlier and found a nice instrumental piano CD... must save up for it now. Have been searching for a good instrumental piano CD for ages!!

And oh yes, have just found out that they're gonna make a movie of "Ender's Game"!! Absolutely wonderfully brilliant; one of my most favourite Orson Scott Card books is gonna be made into a movie!! YAY!!!

And it's directed by Wolfgang Petersen, haha. Says here that he's starting work on it after finishing Troy. :P

Busy wondering right now who he's gonna get to play Ender. Gonna have to be one talented kid; someone who could match up to what Haley Joel Osment did when he was in Sixth Sense, coz Ender's really mature for his age, and I have no idea how they're gonna make any ordinary kid actor accomplish that.

Oh well. Just hope that it gets filmed and that it opens sometime in the near future... I wanna watch it!

And speaking of movies, Ned Kelly is showing commercially now over here. Yippee. :D

Saturday, April 10, 2004

Had my hair cut yesterday, coz my mum has an obsession with getting my hair cut. I only had it cut less than two months ago!

But, anyway, it's now three inches shorter, and well, it does look slightly better.

Don't you hate it when your parents turn out to be right after all. :P

Oh, and Gerri now has three more reviews for my Chapter 37... there is hope!! Haha... :P

Went to school today to return the clarinet I borrowed, and the clarinet is once again the largest section in the band! :D My three juniors, plus 5 J1s in main band, and 5 more trainees; 13 clarinetists!! My section is completely full!! Yippee!!!

Was watching the trainees today and they were so cute.. we have a trainee club again, haha.... :D Makes me think of the days when I was still a trainee, lol... :P

I miss those days. Was pretty slack then, lol. :P

Was penning drafts the whole day today... partial drafts that I'm gonna insert somewhere in the story later... so far, quite happy with what I've come up. Good that I've managed to get some of the stuff out of my head and onto paper. I'm always terrified that I'll forget something really good that I thought up!

Oh, and last night, I had durian cake; it was heavenly! And now there's still about half of it left in the fridge, so whenever anyone opens the fridge, the indoor kitchen gets sort of flooded with the aroma of durian... haha... :P

Gonna eat some more tonight! Yippee...

But have to go eat dinner first. :) Bye.

Didn't go to church today, which is a good thing. Hate going to church. Yes, I'm a shit-lousy Christian; furthermore, I believe in witchcraft and occult practices; don't practice, but believe in them pretty much. If there is a hell, I'll be condemned there when I die, but hey, while I've got this life, I'll have all the fun I want, thanks. Why does everyone think that heaven's gonna be all that great, anyway?

This is the life.

Lazing around at home, on the net, reading fics and surfing around aimlessly; I'm telling you, I'm reading too much slash. I'll go to hell for indulging my urge to read homosexual literature. Hah. Well, I don't care. I don't want to be "saved" anyway. Why the hell do Christians wanna be "saved" and live forever in some place that they don't even know of, anyway?

Who wants to live forever? Even if you say that heaven is a really wonderful place where you don't have to worry about anything, who wants to live in such a place forever, till the end of time itself or whatever?

Would you wanna live forever, living a life where nothing ever happens? At least struggling through everyday life right now gives it a sense of purpose, right? And if you never have to worry about anything in heaven and you'll be happy forever, what's the point, man??

It's a completely damn pointless existence!! Why the hell would you want that for yourself?? Do Christians even know or understand what it is they seem to want so badly?

And all this comes back to my theory that human beings are naturally masochistic; look at us: we indulge in stuff that's bad for us coz it feels good, eat junk food that clogs up our arteries, and we want things that sound good, but we don't even think about what they mean!

I bet if I asked any Christian right now "What are you gonna do in your eternal life after Death, then?" most of them wouldn't have an answer.
Just watched OC season premiere; was good. I now have a source for a regular, weekly dosage of teenage angst. Fun all around. :)

And I finally have a review for my Chapter 37!!

Finally!!

Do you know how fucking disappointing it is to put so much goddamn effort into writing just that one chapter and then when you post it, suddenly no one reviews?!? Even Kate and Jane have gone missing on me! But, Lyl's back, so yeah, whatever gods there are out there, thank you for Lyl.

If no one else reviews, next chapter's posted for Lyl and Lyl alone. Maybe Kate and Jane too, since they have reviewed everything else; musn't discount them just coz of one incident.

Got the battery in my dad's camera changed today. Have finally got off my procrastinating ass and am finally doing something about this strange urge that I have to take pictures of nice moments. Still think that I need a digital camera tho. After all, on a digi cam you can delete the pictures; no wastage of film there if I take any shit ugly shots.

Tomorrow's Good Friday. Crap. Have to go to church. And then I'll have to go on Sunday again; twice in three days?! Like once a week isn't annoying enough.

Saturday, April 03, 2004

Just got back from IJ concert at about 11 pm, and it was really damn good!!! :D

My sister looked so cute coz her uniform was slightly too big for her, but she looked good anyway, haha.... and she looked really good performing too, of course. Am so proud of her!!! :D They sounded really good; I wonder if it was the microphones. Wonder if we sounded that good at last year's SYF. Speaking of SYF, if they sounded that good at SYF, how could they have NOT got Gold?!?!

Anyway, Gerri is rambling again.

I loved their Copacabana! It was so cool; Andy Sim came out shaking a maracas instead of waving his baton, and Pamela cracked a joke that you could tell that Andy Sim wasn't a percussionist, haha... And it was so cool with the dancing and everything, and the end was just absolutely cool, coz the trumpets and trombones right at the back turn in opposite directions on the very last note and at the same time everyone else turns sharply to face front, so the picture is really DAMN COOL. Good lord, I seriously need to add to my vocabulary!! :P

Wish I had brought a camera, damn it.

"When You Believe" was absolutely beautiful; the two girls who sang the solos were better than the whole CJ choir at our Con Fuoco concert two years ago, man!! They sounded wonderful together, and the band was really good too; sounded absolutely heavenly-- we have a multi-talented band, man! Can play, can dance, can sing, HAH! Best CCA in the whole damn school! HAH! :P

Oh, and Pam and I were the first people to yell "ENCORE!" and then after that, various little groups of people started yelling for encore all over the place too, haha... Feels nice to actually start something for once! :P

They performed TWO encore pieces; in my whole life, I've only ever seen one band do two encores, and that was at RJ's concert two years ago, and then they played Brahms' Lullaby when the audience still refused to leave; haha....

And my sis told me that her conductor wanted to do that too, haha....

Gave my sis flowers during the interval; oh, and John got Pam's sis and mine flowers too; he's so sweet! We were slightly late to Marche coz we were getting flowers; I messaged him and told him that we'd be late and he was like, oh, count me in for the flowers too, and he said that since he was going to their concert he might as well get them something, haha. So sweet of him... :D And Pam gave her brownies! :D

Oh, and guitar club played three songs immediately after the interval; it was really damn funny; the conductor was really flourishy and everything, but the sound was so damn soft, HAHA.... so damn anticlimax, man!

So they played two Spanish songs, then they played "Stand By Me", and some of the audience was trying to be enthusiastic and participative and everything by clapping along but the other half of the audience had to shush them up coz the clapping was getting louder than the guitar playing, HAHAHA..... bloody hell, it was so damn stupid, haha.

Yeah, I'm being mean; bite me. Never liked guitar club that much anyway. I mean, guitars are nice, but when you just get a whole lotta guitars together and just play like that, it's just... boring, y'know? There's something that a band has that a guitar club just can't match. I think it's the volume or something; guitar club is always damn soft.

Course, after that the band came back and performed Copacabana... haha, that was fun. Was absolutely well worth $10, man. I hope that everyone who refused or decided not to buy a ticket kicks themselves in the head or has someone else do it for them coz they missed out on some damn cool stuff, haha. :D

Friday, April 02, 2004

Well, that's it. All my guy friends are now in NS; Wei Jian enlisted today, same day as Matthew Yeoh too.

Apparently, Matthew got pretty good results. Really good results, actually. And Xiaochuan had really good grades too! I'm so happy for him!! He's mentioned that he wants to do Chem Engineering; I hope he gets it!! :D

Don't have much to blog about today... just lamenting the loss of the freedom of another of my male friends, haha....

IJ concert is tomorrow; meeting Pam and John for dinner at Marche, and I think I already know what I wanna eat. I want ham and cheese crepes!! I'm gonna get my sister a light pink gerbera coz it's her first performance and everything, haha...

Think Pam and Sylvia wanted to go out to watch a movie this weekend, but I'm really damn broke... :(

Feel like watching Big Fish. Trailer was adorable. Shattered Glass... storyline is really interesting, but dunno whether it's still showing!! Still pondering whether or not to watch Hidalgo. And Secret Window. You see what I mean when I say I'm indecisive about what stuff I wanna watch even though I plan to watch it?!? The Prince and Me sounds cute... like Princess Diaries, and I loved Princess Diaries, so I wanna watch this one! :P

Well, all right, here, Gerri has run out of things to say/type. Going off to the Troy official site to amuse myself.

Thursday, April 01, 2004

I just have to blog. Haha. :P

Right, onto the subject now... See, on Monday night, my sis taped Smallville, and we were watching it just now, and immediately after Smallville there was this exclusive TV spot, and joy of all joys....

It was a teaser for Troy. :D :D :D :D

Gerri is abso-f***ing-lutely ecstatic. :D :D :D

Firstly, coz Orlando Bloom looks bloody gorgeous in the teaser. Not that he doesn't look gorgeous the rest of the time. :P

Secondly, there's lovely singing in the beginning!!

Thirdly, Eric Bana does a wonderful job of being an older brother and chastising Orlando Bloom's character. I love it when it so bloody blatantly shows up that my fave character is the younger one. No idea why, but I love it. :D It's sort of like babying, in a way, and it's so adorable. :)

Fourthly, there was this little, one second worth of a clip which seems to point to Paris killing Achilles. Or maybe it was two different clips cut from two different scenes, but I do hope that they let Paris kill Achilles. If I remember right, the Iliad says that Paris killed Achilles, and Gerri will be very happy if that happens, coz Orlando Bloom will get to kill Brad Pitt (and I'm one girl who doesn't want to see Brad Pitt), and then he himself will die later too, and that will be most pleasing to my sadomasochistic little mind. :)

And best of all, it's on tape, so that means that I can watch it as much as I like!! :D

The reasons to go watch Troy are just piling up, people. :)
