All right, will be gone till Friday, again. :)

Going for Rag camp, so will probably get to see about half my OG and all my seniors again, haha. *little happy dance*

Oh, and something exciting happened just now, about 20 minutes ago, I guess; there was a blackout! As in a blackout that spanned the whole neighbourhood and everything, not just one that was confined to my house; that wouldn't have been all that exciting. :P

So, yes, apparently it was blacked out as far as Thomson as well, coz my sis' friend called about 5 minutes into the power outage, and they were yakking away about the power, and yes, so we found out that Thomson was down too; which means that's about half the island, I guess. :P

See, the power just went out, and I thought, well, heck, we'll get it back on later, someone just go downstairs and switch the main switch back on. But about a minute after the lights had all gone out, the neighbour's baby started crying, and suddenly, it just occurred to me that maybe, just maybe my area was getting one of those widespread blackouts.

So I looked out the window, and found that ALL the houses and even those across the street and everything, they were ALL dark; even the street was dark-- I've never seen the streets around here dark, man! :D

So, yes, all in all, rather exciting. The whole place was dark, except for moonlight, which really, was quite bright. :)

All right, will be back on Friday. :)

Back from Arts Camp!! :D :D

Yeah. So that means that I have 4 days and 3 nights activities to note down. :P

Am actually sleepy and tired as all hell-- I have this distinct feeling that I've slept less than 15 hours in the last 72 hours-- but I just have to get this down; I doubt I'll forget it, but I have to get it down somewhere, anyway. :)

I love my OG and my councillors!! My OG just bonded so well; I mean, we started out kinda awkward, yeah, but on the second day, after coming back from Sentosa, we just sorta clicked-- that was pretty cool. :D

I miss them already... Yingyi, Denise, Sharon, Mary, Wan Tsin, Xu Yang, Gareth, John, Wei Min and Alex; most of us are coming back for Rag anyway. :D And our councillors too; Ming Tuan was our OGL and he got best councillor in our house (yay!); he has this really funny laugh, I tell you; whenever he laughs, it sounds like someone who's laughing at some slapstick comedy or something. And there's Judy, who's his girlfriend, and Kenneth and Jiarong; Kenneth is pretty damn funny too. :D And our house ICs, Raynard and Debbie; Raynard is damn funny; I've never met a funnier person in my life!! It's like he was just BORN funny, man; he has all this really stupid jokes and songs like his "countries of the world" song, where he just names all the countries of the world in one long stretch, but he does it to a melody, of course, and the stupid games that he teaches us; they're all really damn stupid, but that's really why it makes us laugh!!! :D :D

Sad thing is, four of the five guys in our group aren't actually coming to Arts.. Wei Min's going to Engin, John and Gareth are going to Archi, and Xu Yang's going into SMU business; only Alex is actually coming to Arts! Which means that they can't come back for Rag with the rest of us, coz they really should participate with their own faculties, haha.

Not much happened on the first day, but on the second day we went to Sentosa. Played this game called "Chase" for the first part of the day; was that kinda thing where you run around looking for stations and the stations have tasks that you need to perform or games that you need to play. So, we had four stations, and our third station was at Tanjong Beach, and we had to make our way there from the Merlion, which was pretty far, so we were on our way there, when we happened upon this pick-up truck driver, and we asked him for a lift and he was so nice to give it to us! We passed one group on the way there, Pam's group actually, heehee; and we were waving from the truck and everything. So the Tanjong Beach station had Kenneth and Judy for stationmasters, and they're our councillors, so they were really proud of us for hitching a ride, haha...

And when we were leaving, Kenneth was like, "I'll help you all find another truck", haha.. Oh, but we *did* find another one, and when we were driving off, we yelled bye to them, and Kenneth was like: "I salute you, man!" And he actually did stand up on the bench down on the beach and salute as we drove off to Sijori Resort. And from Sijori, we managed to hitch another ride down back to Tanjong Beach which was supposed to be the last stop for the game for everyone, and when we arrived back, Kenneth was still there, and he was so proud of us, haha!!!

So by the end of the day, I think everyone knew about us, the group that managed to hitch three rides!! And towards the end of the day itself, when we were walking back to PGP, down that long stretch of road, past al those small little houses which serve as small research centres and the like, Aaron drove up and offered to give us a lift the rest of the way, haha; ANOTHER ride!! And Kenneth said that the van and lorry gods must be smiling on us, LOL.....

So yeah, Sentosa was fun, and later that night we had night ventures; you know, that sorta thing where the seniors dress up as ghosts and try to scare the crap out of you. Was pretty fun. While we were waiting, they also had us do this Secret Pal thing; see each of us was assigned this Secret Pal, and we were each given nicknames, which were the only thing that we knew each other by. So while waiting for the dispatchers to take us to the places that we'd have to go to for our night venture, they blindfolded us and let us talk to our SPs; literally blind-dating, I tell you. :P

Anyway, yeah, got along pretty well with my SP; when our councillors came to take us back to our groups, I found out that we'd been talking for two hours!! Unreal, man! I have not, and never would have talked to a complete stranger for two hours, but well, right then, I'd done it, haha. He was easy enough to get along with, really. Oh, then later they took us for our night venture; my OG was the last group to go, haha. I think besides me, Denise and Gareth got on pretty well with their SPs too

on the third day we had another of those stations-type games at the SRC and we were just running around trying to complete as many stations as possible, and at the end we had this massive all-out waterbomb fight using half the field! Our house ICs were given bamboo poles with plastic hula hoops tied in front of them, and they had to cover the hoops with newspaper; then all at the same time, every house would run to all the rest and throw their house's waterbombs at the other houses' hoops and try to break the newspaper, and my house won!! Haha... Woohoo! Was damn fun; we were throwing the leftover waterbombs at each other and whatever the Science and Engin and Bizad camps were doing out there on that same field, it sure must've looked damn boring as compared to us!! Ha, suckers. :P

Then that night we all had our SPs revealed and we had dinner with them; like an early phase of SDU, I tell you; the seniors planned all this really romantic like setting with tealights and they turned off the lights in the hall and everything, but it was still packed food as always, so that wasn't too romantic, haha! And despite the tealights, it wasn't bright enough; couldn't really see what we were eating! Lol... Oh, but my SP was nice; average-looking guy, but he's a decent guy; he kept asking me if I needed another drink or more tissue or something, haha.. but he was just trying to be nice anyway; I think it was kinda awkward for most of us, anyway! :P Ah, yes, and his name's Edmund. :)

Well, after that, the seniors booked this club for us-- for six hours, I tell you! Who dances for six hours?! All right, anyway, they booked this place for us, this place called Mox; was on the fourth floor of a shophouse-like place around Tanjong Pagar. Danced for a while with my OG, even got pushed up onto the stage with them at one point, but for the second half of the night, I was sitting outside on the balcony with Gareth and Sharon and Yingyi coz it was really loud and pretty warm inside.

Judy said that we had to stay awake coz it was the last night and everything, so we came back and showered and went downstairs to play truth or dare, but when it was the first person's turn, we realised that we kinda tired to do any kind of daring, so it became truth or truth, haha...

Anyway, we only lasted till 6.30 am. :P We all went to sleep then and woke up at about 9 plus and packed and everything and went downstairs to the hall for breakfast at 10.45 am. Yeah, that was it. So, yeah, was really fun.

Have signed up for Rag and as freshman councillor for O Week, pretty much like the rest of my OG, so I'll probably be going for Rag camp next week. Yep, another camp, haha.

This must be the longest post in the whole blog!! :D :D

Tuesday, June 22, 2004

Well, it's 12.07 am now, so by right, the arts camp thingy starts later today. So I really should be asleep. But I really never get around to doing the things that I really should be doing. Which is why I'm such a goddamn failure in life.

But well.

So I should really get to sleep soon.

But I have to double and triple check my checklist again. Yeah.

All right.

Well, just the other day, Gerri realised that she now hates Wolfgang Petersen.

I mean, there were some parts that I liked in the movie better than in the Iliad, like Agamemnon getting killed in Troy so that means that he never got to savour his victory, and the bit where Hector kills Menelaus, and the ending where at least Andromache and Astyanax get away instead of being captured or thrown from the battlements, and more people than just Aeneas get out of the city, but I hate Wolfgang Petersen because he had two actors who worked so goddamn well as brothers but he didn't give the two of them enough screen time together!!

Well, maybe I just want more gratuituous Eric Bana and Orlando Bloom ogling, but seriously, I went to watch the film waiting for a little heart-to-heart scene between the two brothers, and I almost squealed with joy when Eric Bana, sorry, I mean Hector, says that "I must speak with Paris", but then later he steps out into the corridor and Helen comes by and he never ends up going to speak with Paris; at least not that we know in the movie.

Stupid Helen.

I hate Helen! She started the whole stupid Trojan War. Stupid Aphrodite.

Argh!!

Dumbasses.

And in other news, Gerri is now obsessed with LiveJournal Icons, despite the fact that she does not and has no desire to own a Livejournal. I've got several pretty ones stashed in my computer now, just for looking at. I've made three myself! :D

They're all so pretty. :P

All right, I really should go check my stuff and get to sleep.

Will be back on 25th June, when the camp ends.

Had so much FUN yesterday, hahaha...

Met Pam at City Hall to register for the Arts Camp thingy, and then we walked to Bugis Junction to buy stuff for her junior's and Sylvia's bdays; we got her junior a keychain with her chinese surname on it and we got little bags made of recycled paper and with lovely dried, dyed leaves stuck onto their sides so that we could put cookies in them later.

Oh, and I found out that there's a Kinokuniya at Bugis Junction; was most fascinating-- I thought that there was only one Kino in Singapore!! All right, so anyway, I went in to look at books, and in the small corner with two shelves set aside for War/Military History, I found one book tucked away into the corner. Just one.

So, yes, I'm finally the owner of Mark Bowden's "Black Hawk Down". Yippee. :D

Altho I've found that I can't read it at night; it's military history as written by a reporter/journalist after all, so there's a distinct and expected lack of dialogue-- due to the lack of dialogue, it makes it very boring to read at night, so I can only read it in the daytime when the sunlight will at least make sure that I don't fall asleep, haha.

But it's still really good; have started into the second part of the book already; um.. chapter 15 or so, I think.

Then we walked back to her place to start baking.... :D

Made "Chocolatey chocolate chip cookies" and "Fudgie Wudgies"!!

Haha... um, was kinda hilarious, really. :P

See, we dolloped the cookie mix onto the baking sheet and put it into the over to start it baking, and Pam and I were kinda horrified at how much they were spreading once they were in the oven, LOL. And then they looked really lovely, so we started going about preparing a second batch, when suddenly Pam's mum came out and she took one look at the ones in the oven and went, "Pam, why are some so big and some so small?"

So Pam bent down for a look, and she sorta shrieked then and wailed about they were collapsing! So I bent down to look too, and yeah, they were collapsing! Like, just deflating right there; to put it as Pam said: "They're collapsing before my very eyes!"

And a few minutes later, Pam's dad came home and he took one look at them and he told Pam that he was sure that if she knelt down in front of the oven and prayed really hard, God might make them all right. Lol. :P

So the cookies turned out kinda flat, but after that we made Fudgie Wudgies and those turned out lovely!! And I found out that Pam's kitchen timer works; she thought that it was spoilt. I love those timers; ticktickticktick... :D :P

Oh, and Pam showed me the issue of FHM that she bought which has Laura in it; she's wearing this skimpy red bikini in the photoshoot in the mag, and man, she looks gorgeous, but it's damn weird; I can't believe that I shared a classroom with this girl for two years!! :P

Not to mention that it's damn weird to look at your classmates in any kind of state of undress.

All right, two days ago, found this lovely Hector/Paris vid; was so lovely that I almost cried. Very appropriate choice of song too. The Calling's "For You".

Weepy stuff. Sob. Wibble.

Fave parts of the vid are when the second line of the song comes on: "I am justice" and it's accompanied by a shot of Hector; beautifully appropriate. Wibble.

And the part where Hector and Paris are riding back towards the city gates after the Paris vs Menelaus duel (really, should we even call it a duel? More like an ass-kicking) and Hector tells him to get inside and then he calls out to the archers, but coz all the sound in the clips is cut out and dubbed over with the lovely song, Hector's yelling coincides with the moment where the singer sings a loud, simple "For you", and it's followed by the shot of the whole Greek army starting their charge and it's just wonderful. Sigh. Bigger wibble.

It's almost like saying that he's only fighting it (the war, I mean) for Paris, y'know? That's what that scene transition in the vid looks like to me. 'Tis most lovely. Wibble.

And the two occasions in the vid where the lyrics go "You are the light that shines the way" and it shows Paris' face... Sigh, wibble, melty puddle of Gerri-goo.

And the end where um, Hector dies, well.

We all know my reaction to that already...

*flat-out wibbling and moaning and sobbing*

Interesting, isn't it? LOL. August 13 2010.. you don't say. Not too long after my 25th birthday, that date is... :P Haha....

Strange thing is, I entered "Gerri" first and I got.. well, what you see above: Orlando Bloom (hehe :P), but when I entered "Geraldine" just for fun to see if the result would be different, I get Paris.

Hm. Doesn't matter; I liked Paris' hair. I mean, Orlando Bloom's hair for Paris. Lovely hair. And he's so babiable. :P And who cares if he's a bloody coward? Between me and his other brothers we'll teach the kid to grow some balls...

*Falls off her chair laughing at how ridiculous she sounds*

Friday, June 11, 2004

Well, well, guess what I saw in yesterday's paper's Life! section. 'Twas most amusing, I assure you.

There was this small column right at the back of the section, and it was about how Orlando Bloom had no chest hair, so Ridley Scott was making him wear fake hair on his chest to make him look more manly for his role in Kingdom of Heaven, LOL....

Tickled me pink, that one did. :D

It's like in the week that Troy was released, there was this article on the actors in the paper as well, and it mentioned "the three lead hunks, Brad Pitt and Eric Bana and Orlando Bloom" or well, they said something to that extent, but I remember the word "hunks" very clearly, and I burst out laughing coz does Orlando Bloom look like a "hunk" to you??

Haha...

Nah, he's not a hunk, he's too slender to be a "hunk"! He's just an adorable, lovely little femme-boy, hahaha....

Not that he's just good for looking at; he can act, sure he can. No sarcasm there. I'm not one to criticise since I can't act, although I can lie pretty well. :P

And, see, the reason why I like these adorable little boys, I think, might be coz I'm a Cancer. Cancers are supposed to have very strong maternal instincts, so I think I'm just looking for someone to baby, haha.

And well, since I can't baby Orlando Bloom, I just sit back and watch other people baby him and then gush over the squealworthily-cute spectacle that it makes. :D :D

I can't help it; Orlando Bloom is almost too adorable to be true, haha. :P

Oh, and I've found music for my blog! Like it? I loved it when it was still playing on the Troy official flash site, but pity that it's not there anymore. It's been replaced with boring old-Hollywood-1960s-epic kinda music. :(

And shh... the music's actually snatched off someone else's site; I was SHOCKED as all hell when I went on that site and suddenly the music started playing and I was like, "what the hell? WHICH WINDOW IS IT COMING FROM?!?!?" :P

So, I found the window, and I read the source code for the page, and after a wee bit of trial and error, voila! I got it!

I've got the sound file itself on my com now, so I'll upload it onto my own site (just into the file manager, I think) soon and then I'll source the music from there. Coz I feel very bad hotlinking it from someone's else's site... :P

Oh, and in other news, apparently last week, my poem "Shrift" was in the Poet Sanctuary's Spotlight column... and I didn't even know!! Such a shame... I would've loved to see it in there, but well, it still has about 20 reviews right now, and that's still much to thank for!! :D

Thursday, June 10, 2004

All right, this is going to be really irrelevant, but I just had to post, coz I just saw this clip of Eric Bana doing an impression of Orlando Bloom, and y'know, when I said before that I just couldn't imagine Eric Bana as a comic, well, I take that back, coz his impression of Orlando Bloom was just damn accurate and so goddamn funny, good LORD...

"...like a painting of my head, on the back of an Air New Zealand plane; I couldn't believe it!"

*Falls off chair and dies laughing*

Oh, and I quote: "Hot young thing, Orlando Bloom."

Haha.

Hey, he (Eric Bana) said that, not me.

Not that I disagree. :P

I GOT INTO NUS!!!

Well, yeah, I did. Haha. Checked my email last night, and as of 12 mn this morning (morning/night??) I knew that I was accepted into FASS, haha...

Was so happy; my mum made me call my aunts and tell them immediately, and after that I messaged Pam, and we both came to a strange conclusion over the course of our messaging conversation: we both don't know any other girls who've been accepted to NUS.

Strange, no?

We're talking about girls here, coz well, all the guys in our year will only be entering NUS when we're about to leave it; in two years time! So far, total tally for guys accepted is four: John, Kevin and Wai Lun were accepted into FASS too, and Wei Jian got into engineering, but apparently John turned down NUS' offer coz SMU gave him the course that he actually wanted; well, good for him, anyway. :) All this is starting to make me wonder where we're all gonna be in ten years time or so.

*shrugs*

Oh well. This solves a lot of my problems, haha... :D Was damn worried that I'd have to go to an arts school in the UK (not that that's a problem; I'd love to go to an arts school) but I wouldn't have the finances for it so I'd be at a dead end!!

Yes, anyway, I'm damn happy, haha.

And just last night, I had curry for dinner; I hate anything spicy coz I don't see the point of making yourself suffer while you're supposed to be fulfilling a basic need (eating)-- see, another point to prove that humans are naturally masochistic! But I didn't have a choice, coz all there was was curry.. oh well. Anyway, it wasn't half-bad; it tasted nice, but my tongue and throat were smouldering away by the time I'd finished dinner.

Right, and my point is, I was thinking, what is it about chilli and ginger and anything spicy that makes us feel the spiciness? I mean, spicy stuff makes you feel like your tongue's sorta on fire, yeah? So what is it that the chilli does to make you feel that way? Does it increase the temperature of your tongue or something?

Logically, this doesn't make sense, coz that'd mean that if you put chilli seeds (coz that's where the spiciness comes from; the seeds, mainly, not the whole chilli) on paper, it'd raise the temperature of the paper and it'd catch fire. Interesting idea, but not logical.

So, I finally came to the conclusion, after MANY years of pondering this question, that what chilli seeds do, is that they inflame the taste buds on the tongue!

Yes sirree, that's it! They inflame the taste buds, so they cause this unpleasant (or pleasant for some people??) burning sensation, which we human beings call spicy!!

And that in itself is strange; we call a burning sensation "spicy"-- language is never short of synonyms, is it?

And Gerri is also happy because today, she has finally finished her first "Troy" wallpaper! Yay!

It's a Hector and Paris one, haha.

No, note the use of "and". "Hector AND Paris", not "Hector/Paris". I'm not that far into slash yet, altho, hey, why not? :D

It's just that I don't think that any of the Troy pics of the two of them that I've seen really lend themselves towards slashing. Or maybe I should go look for more piccies.

Ah well.

All right, shall be off now. :)

Just got back from concert; WHEE!!!!!!!! :D

God, that was FUN; I wasn't even anxious and nervous like I usually am before a performance; maybe it's coz this time I was only performing two songs instead of an entire repertoire, haha....

Oh, but people, there were so many people that I knew who came to watch us! My Gerri twin came to watch, and Karen too! Oh, and when it was over, I came downstairs to look for my sis, and I saw Miss Fernandez and her husband! And Soon Aik and Dawn were there, and John and Wei Jian came too, and when I was leaving, I saw Wai Lun with John; almost didn't recognise Wai Lun at first, man; I haven't seen him for so long! :D

Sadly, Wai Lun said that he only arrived after interval, which means that he missed our performance! And that means that he was only left with the boring old choir and the combined band and choir piece finale... :(

Still find choir as boring as usual; even the guitar club was better than them tonight, man! Mostly coz their soloist; some guy called Anson, I think; was really good-- played like a pro, man. As for the song that the whole guitar club performed together, well... the group songs still don't do it for me. I think it has something to do with the fact that everyone seems to be playing more or less the same thing, while in band there're melody players and counter-melody and harmonics and everything; band has a fuller sound that way, and guitar just doesn't seem to be able to cut it.

Nearly died playing Appalachian Overture; oh, but Phantom of the Opera was good... was lovely; I had fun on that one!! :D

Haha... we actually had a sorta false start on Phantom; the power for the synthesiser went off, so before we got to bar 8, Alvin stopped us and explained to the audience that the power for the synthesiser had gone off; poor Jacqueline was so embarrassed when Alvin actually pointed her out. But her solo later when beautifully; everyone loved it, they clapped and everything; she played a few wrong notes, but they actually didn't sound too far off, so you wouldn't know that they were wrong unless you were looking for it or unless you knew how exactly it was supposed to sound.

And Viknesh was great on his solo, man! And his sisters really look a lot like him!! And Ming Li's brother looks like Kevin, haha!! Some of the alumni people spotted him when people were just getting seated before the concert started, and Wei Seng kept on for about half an hour, annoying Kevin by saying that the kid was Kevin's brother, haha... but it was pretty freaky; Ming Li's brother really did look like Kevin, man! Like a younger version of Kevin!

Was so fun; don't think I've ever enjoyed myself at a concert more, haha... :D

And in other news, Gerri is becoming obsessed with Eric Bana/Orlando Bloom slash, coz those two are just absolutely fetching, and putting the two of them together in any way is just damn hot. :P

So.. this is kinda leading towards me leaning towards Hector/Paris incest Troy slash.... :P Haha... yes, Gerri is a poor, sick, sad child indeed. :P

Oh, but they do look so cute together, like in all the Cannes pics where it looks like Orlando Bloom's being babied by Eric Bana; awww, that's just so *cuuute*..... :D

All righty.... Gerri is still giddily happy after concert, so off she shall go.. to do.. um. Something. To amuse herself.

Hm.

Well, all right, back to the slash fics, I suppose... :P

Friday, June 04, 2004

Haven't blogged for days... more than a week, I think. Not that nothing exciting's happened or anything, but I was just too lazy to blog. :P

Anyway, performance is tomorrow... Phantom is okay, but Appalachian still sucks. Especially the Coda bit. Eugh.

And I still need to find myself a pair of black pants! ARGH!! Why does this ALWAYS happen to me before performance?!?

Oh, and the Miss Universe pagaent was on on Wednesday night, and Australia won!! Ha, I was so happy when USA had to settle for 1st runner-up, haha....

Oh, but Miss Australia looks like Diane Kruger from some angles.... it's scary. And Miss USA had to be the most BORING person I'd ever seen in a beauty pageant; she was just blond and had this sweet, wholesome looking face, and-- gah, well, she just looked so boring!!

Oh, and Miss Paraguay had LOVELY eyes. Beautiful. And no, it had nothing to do with the eyeshadow. But her blue eyeshadow did go very nicely with her eyes. And Miss Jamaica had a really nice, smooth, sorta low, sexy kinda voice. :D No, really, I loved her voice! :D

Argh... spend all this time looking at pretty women and making myself feel inadequate; yes, human beings are naturally masochistic; this is another point to prove my theory. Hey, if I get to do Psychology, maybe my thesis for my Masters will be on the masochistic inclinations of the human race. :D
